Once you set it up to allow shots with aperture ring in the menu, you can get it to set the exposure with manual lenses by hitting the AEL button. The other setup thing that I found very handy is to program the OK button to disable autofocus. In low light I'll use a half press of the shutter to pre-focus, then use the OK button to disable autofocus so that when I press the shutter there's no lag as the camera struggles with focus. P.S.
