I think what makes it for me is the white "foliage" - is that the
actual colour of the tiny leaves or is it frost?

Thanks, Frank. And what a great question :). The branch is actually
covered in lichen that has that blue-grey color. I actually selected it
and set it in place next to a small pond to act as an enticing perch for
the birds with noting distracting in the background. I was really happy
when they decided to use it.
