Yes! I like the new crop much more. I'd also crop in a bit tighter on the right hand side, keeping the pole with the handicapped sign but not much more.
To me, the tension in this photo is between the sign, the man's look and body posture, and the handicap sign. Those three elements juxtaposed creates the humor. ;-)
