I have to say whenever I give talks at camera clubs and the debate between RAW vs. JPEG pops up I turn to my film experience days as a reference.
Shooting in b/w with my own darkroom where I could push-pull the film's sensitivity and dodge and burn in the printing process was similar to shooting RAW. Shooting in color (print) where I had no control in the developing/printing meant I had to get it right (including reading the mind of the local lab technician) in the camera the first time around--that sounds very much like shooting JPEG. ... yeah, I can be sentimental about film days but I don't want to go back there again 'seriously' (I still shoot film for fun and as a creative exercise, but nothing life threatening)...
