We're allowed bikes on the subways and buses outside of rush hour and
all weekend (when this was taken). Many buses (like all of them on
the route out toward my office) have fold-down bike racks on the front
that can be used any time. Now that snow's here - and more
particularly, very icy shoulders - along much of my route, I have been
throwing my bike on those racks and busing to within about 5
kilometers of work. From the last bus stop the roads are wide, flat
and not heavily travellled, so I can do snow and cold for ten or
fifteen minutes. It keeps me from completely going flabby over the
winter, so I should be in better shape than usual by the time spring
comes.

Gotta get a photo of my bike on one of those racks...

As for this fellow, I don't know where he was going, but I can tell
you that there are many days in the winter where side streets or
streets on the outskirts of town are impassible for bikes (with skinny
tires, like this fellow and like mine) while main thoroughfares
downtown are clear and passable. Taking a bike by transit downtown
then using that bike to do numerous errands on clear roads makes
perfect sense during this season.

cheers,
frank
