Technology has launched a surprise attack on me...
Back in 2003, in Scotland, I remember Cotty had this special cable
connecting his cellphone to his Mac to use the cellphone as a regular
modem. I did the same via IR connection, and got a transfer rate about
9500 bits per second. The real transfer rate turned out to be lower
because of packet loss.

My present cellphone is not too happy about connecting via its IR
interface, so I figured I better get some other stuff. A USB thingie
is now connected to my laptop (which is the same as in 2003). It hooks
up to the cellphone network, and must be doing some kinda magic 'cos
the transfer rate is a whopping 1 megabit. Geez...

I must be getting old. But lucky.
