Frank, due to the dynamic nature of this image, I don't feel the background is 
a deal breaker. I'd, maybe, attempt to soften/darken it  some and go with it. I 
would, definitely, clone out or otherwise eliminate whatever that "thing" that 
appears in the mouth of the adult figure on the left. I imagine it's part of 
the background.
I would have thought that bright color would have, also, suited the theme.
Works for me!
