Since you are considering manual focus, a seller on a certain auction site has been listing an A* 300 F2.8 for a while now. But if you can afford to go a bit higher you can get an FA* 300 F2.8. There is a Japanese store that does business on that same auction site--Matsuiyastore--that sometimes has one or two of these.
