It's funny but right now there is no really cheap, i.e., <$500, Pentax DSLR. I have a friend thinking about moving to a DSLR, an the cheapest Pentax at B&H is the K10D at $650. Nikon has the D40 for $500 and Olympus has the 510 ($485) and the 410 ($399). ( I just can't bring myself to recommend a low end Rebel.) At least I have no reservations about recommending the K10D.
