"Samsung feature very strongly with a 2 page advertisement centre spread on the GX20. On the front page you can read about their plans to produce their own lenses rather than rely on Tokina. With help from their partners Schneider they will be able to create very high quality products"
Okay, let's get this straight: Tokina and Pentax both state that the joint lenses were jointly designed. In actuality, Tokina designed the 12-24 and Pentax designed the optics of all the others. Pentax even manufactures the optics for the Tokina lenses. They have the same coatings as Pentax lenses. Samsung once claimed that their lenses really were S-K lenses. In actuality they are Pentax lenses. S-K is put on as a brand label. There are reports that S-K evaluated the lenses before allowing their name to go on them. That's all. Companies lie if it helps profits or even just image. Even Pentax. But Samsung do seem increasingly to be trying to distance themselves from Pentax, at least for public consumption. OTOH, any of the major lens companies has the capacity to make good lenses if they see a price-point where the lens would sell. Cosina, for example, has made both some of the worst and some of the best. If Samsung engages some other lens company to design K-mount lenses, that strikes me as good news. I'll be looking to see what they offer. If Pentax doesn't offer me a DA* 400 F5.6, perhaps Samsung will. Anyway, I prefer Samsung's blue ring to Pentax's green one.
