Given the type of lens (extreme telephoto) and the fully extended lenshood protecting the narrow field of view of the front element, I think it unlikely that there would be opportunity for the sun to cause much damage. Given that it is not being carried in a vice-like grip or wrapped in cotton wool, it is probably a company lens - so why should she care?
