No doubt about it.  I call it the "Cylinder of Focus".  It's the 
cylinder of points that are in focus throughout the pan.  I've got quite 
a few shots where I got the timing a bit wrong and ended up with the 
rear or the front of the car on the cylinder instead of the driver or 
cockpit, for example.
