On 11/02/08, Doug Franklin, discombobulated, unleashed: >Alba wows geeks at Oscars' tech fest ><http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080210/ap_on_en_mo/oscars_tech_awards_2> > >about the technical Oscar presentations yesterday. In the last >paragraph of the article lies the following quotation: > >... David Grafton got one for his engineering of lenses used to create >special effects in films ... > >So where would be a good place to get more information on just exactly >that he'd be engineering into or out of lenses to do various sorts of >special effects? Or, heck, just what sorts of special effects would be >available this way?
The lenses Grafton designs are most probably used in optical printing, rather than as motion picture camera lenses. Optical printers are giving way to CGI (Computer Generated Imaging) so I would have thought this award is an achievement award for past work, not necessarily present work, but I could be wrong.
