For the singletrack trail riding I do, full suspension is pretty much required. It's not the jumps and drop-offs so much as the rocks and roots you ride over. This particular bike has 3 inches of travel front and rear which is great for my style and trail preferences. It really absorbs the rocks and roots well, while still maintaining enough stiffness for climbing. It is also remarkably well balanced which makes the handling quicker than the old Giant. > > In addition to my two riders, I have 3 road frames in the basement > waiting for parts, my wife wants new handlebars on her ride, and I need > to overhaul all but one of my bottom brackets. In addition to the FSR I have the Giant hardtail, the wife's Gary Fisher hardtail and my "classic" 1984 Takara Deluxe Touring road bike which I completely overhauled this summer. > > What I don't have is a mountain bike. The co-worker I bought the FSR from has 6 or 7 mountain bikes including a 29er and a Specialized Demo 9 downhill bike with 9 inches of travel front and rear(!). Wanna buy a really well-used Giant Rincon? yeah, the rear axle snapped in half the last time I rode it (damn rocks and roots!), but I just replaced it and rebuilt the rear hub... :-) -- Christian http://photography.skofteland.net -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
