What debate?   Photoshop is one of the few applications that *can*
make use of multiple processors - it's been able to do so for years.

In a year or two I confidently expect Photoshop to be able to make
full use of the massively parallel GPUs on high-end graphics cards.
That will make today's CPU-based implementation look really slow.
