I remember the era when I was traveling a lot and carried a huge bag full of telephone cables and adapters, plug adapters, and power converters. Most are gone now.
In recent years, I have traveled to the UK and Mexico with nothing other than a plug converter and an 802.11b/g equipped laptop. In one case, the hotel I was staying at did not have wireless and provided a 10/100 Base/T ethernet cable. Call ahead to the hotel and ensure that they have wireless access in the rooms or in a common area.
