In Saskatchewan, all alcoholic beverage sales are controlled by the government. We do have offsales of beer and wine, and some places are allowed spirits, though they are not going after a classy customer base, and have to adhere to the code of conduct that is set down by the liquor commission. The SLBA stores are expensive, the offsales are half again more expensive. I try to treat myself to a nice bottle of Whisky for Christmas, this year's Lagavulin cost just a shade under $100.00. Even a 26 of Johnny Walker Red is close to 40 bucks here. MADD has done a very good job of co-opting the government to raise taxes on booze as a way of dissuading consumption.
