I owe an older Tamron 28-105 AF and has A setting. I really like the 
lens (except it's speed :D) and it was a really really good bargain :D 
(I bought for 18K HUF that's ~70 Euro)

I also have a Takumar 2.8/28 which is only better in speed (and a little 
bit more sharp, but nothing that can be seen on a 9x13 print :D)... so I 
think 'older' Tamron zoom lens are quite a good deal since they are 
quite cheap and there are no real quality problems with them.
