I've not looked at any other responses, so as not to prejudice what
I'm about to say.

After about 6 months of going digital, here are a few of the
advantages that I've experienced with the medium:

1) I really getting hundreds of photos per 1 gig card. I've only got
two cards, but there aren't many shoots (none so far!) where that's
not sufficient. It's not just the fact that I don't have to cart
around canisters of film but the fact that I don't have to unload and
load every 36 frames.

2) I really like the fact that I can change ISO at whim, without
changing bodies or films. This is a ~huge~ advantage of digital,
IMHO.

For most of my uses, image quality is fine, but I just got back a
print from TriX a couple of weeks ago, and it looked amazing! The
subtle difference in greytones were amazing; there was a "liquid"
quality to it that was quite beautiful. So, from time to time, I find
image quality of B&W film to surpass digital. I also don't like the
way digital blows out highlights. I know that's me and my
old-fashioned exposure techniques, but still...

I'm pretty happy overall with digital. I had a real long dry spell
before I got the *istD. Acquiring that little fellow has definitely
kick-started my love of photography again.

cheers,
frank
