Heads typically add 2.5-3.5 inches to the static height of the tripod  
up to the head seat, and the camera adds another increment too (which  
varies depending upon camera, portrait and landscapt orientation...).

I found the range I wanted, after measuring things a lot, was 51 to  
56 inches, the more the better. The larger of these two, then, would  
be acceptable per my criteria.

So the ones I got would be just shy of about double the price. I felt  
the additional load capacity and height, along with the low weight  
and compactness, was worth it ... but that's a call only you can  
make. :-)
