Sears bought lenses and re-branded them. They never made them.

Many companies made lenses with Pentax M42 thread mount, and many  
many rebranded them. Fewer made lenses with Pentax K-mount, but there  
are enough of those anyway.

If you want top notch lenses, stick with Pentax brand and SMC  
coatings. Some of the Practika and Zeiss lenses made with Pentax M42  
thread mount are excellent too. Some others are ok. I wouldn't waste  
much time on most of the third party lenses, although some of the  
Vivitar Series One are very nice.

Stay away from Ricoh "PK-R" mount lenses (often Chinon brand, also  
Soligor, Kiron, Tamron and Vivitar) for Pentax AF cameras. There is a  
mount incompatibility that can cause the lens to become stuck on the  
body.
