Marnie,

I got my current pair of Seagate 500s from Fry's for about $190
apiece. Good enclosures: Dual interface USB 2.0 and FireWire 400, fan
cooled, auto power switching, etc. In the heat we had last summer, I
was getting darn worried with some of my drives in non-fan-cooled
enclosures. Seems quite risky.

I would strongly suggest that you acquire a second external drive and
back up your photo work to it. One drive failure with everything on
it is a disaster, one drive failure when you have a complete backup
on a second drive is just an expensive PITA. ;-)

Thanks, Godfrey. Yeah, that is what I've been thinking too. Not sure heat
alone can cause failure, but I would bet so.
