I don't believe that with current technologies there is a need to add
ND buffering to manage spectral sensitivities, they are working at
near the theoretical limits now and any sensitivity variations between
the colour channels can be negated during RAW conversion.

Kodak have simply dropped half of the colour filters so that half of
the photo sites register full spectrum luminance. AS you would expect
sensitivity increases but colour purity/edges will likely suffer,
there's always a compromise. More information can be found at:
