Some interesting comments to be found in the test of the K10D @ Photozone: 

"The in-body shake reduction system is surely one of the primary selling 
points for the camera. Compared to lens-based solutions this system is 
obviously more cost-neutral on the lens side and its immediately available 
for most legacy lenses. Besides it eliminates the need to "pollute" the lens 
system with a "alien" lens group which doesn't contribute anything to the 
image quality and which may decrease the long term reliability of the lens 
(as many Canon IS and Nikkor VR lens tests have shown to date).........."
