The problem is that I don't think that it applies to us, poor hobbyists ;-)
(well, at least in my case).

I don't amortize my equipment, I only get emotional reward out of my work, 
and I think that it is not that strange to be reasonably concerned about 
eventually having to build another similar system from scratch. At least for 
me would be difficult to justify.

Having said that, I also think that there are many things more important 
than photo equipment to be concerned about, so not a big deal ;-)


Godfreys point is valid if:
A) There is no significant investment in equipment.
B) Money is not an impedment to equipment replacing.

Some of us have made very large investments in lenses. For myself, if I have 
to change brands to a non K-mount system, and can't adapt my present lenses 
in a usable manner, I will pretty much be giving up photography. I can't 
afford the 50K it would cost me to change patforms,
