The balloon that I flew years ago used what appeared to be the same type of fuel line as was used for propane barbecues, and I know of several pilots from less strict jurisdictions that used cheap fuel lines rather than the expensive ones sold by the balloon manufacturer, and approved for aircraft use. I also heard some really scary stories of baskets catching fire during flight when cheap fuel lines ruptured......
