It doesn't necessarily matter if the person is a lurker or not.
Generally, once I buy something it becomes a cold dead hands object. On very
rare occassions, I have posted FS items to the list.

Those of you who have bought from me will attest that I am in the habit of
sending the item out for inspection, and if it passes muster, then, and only
then, do I ask for payment.
If it doesn't pass, then I ask for the item back.
It's probably not the right way, but it is my way.

A couple of years ago, I replaced my silver Limited lenses with black ones.
The sale of the 31mm lens went very smoothly. The lens passed inspection and
the cheque arrived shortly thereafter.
This sale was to a list member who is known, but not terribly active on the
list.

The 77 went to a well known list member. We worked out a deal via email in
advance of my shipping the lens, and I sent the item off to it's new home,
where it arrived safe and sound.
We are coming up on two years later, and I am still owed over half of the
selling price on the lens, and have pretty much given up any hope of
collecting in full.
The lens is, apparently, lost in transit on it's way back to me, though I
was never provided with any proof of shipment, a tracking number, or
anything else to indicate that the lens was sent back to me.

Since the transaction crossed an international boundary, my ability to
enforce payment is limited, and more costly than what is owed.
Consequently, I have written the deal off as a bad one, and given up on
attempting to collect.
My insurance company told me to bugger off, since I freely sent the lens
away, they won't touch the claim.

Anyway, I don't know if I have a point to make here, other than be
suspicious of everyone, I guess.
The vast majority of the people I have had dealings with via this list have
been good and trustworthy, but it only takes one lemon to leave a sour taste
in one's mouth.
