I used to use the Bogen 3030 which is, I guess, an older version of
this:

I gave up on the Bogen system because every head seems to have its
own style quick-release plate. I had one style to use with the simple
head mounted on my monopod, another style for the 3030, and it was
going to be yet another style if I went to a ballhead. So I switched
to Kirk, and am using their BH-3 ballhead which uses the Swiss-Arca
style plates.

I thing I like about Kirk, compared to the several other companies
which use the same style plates, is that Kirk has had custom-fit
plates for the MZ-S, the *ist-D, and now the K-10D. These really make
a difference by preventing the plate from rotating when shooting
vertically with a heavy lens mounted. And I highly recommend the
quality of the BH-1.

BTW, my Bogen 3030 and the Kirk plates for *ist-D body and for *ist-D
grip are for sale...
