As I mentioned a month or so ago, I'm thinking of buying a
heavy-duty plastic toolbox for just this purpose.  The one
I've seen (at the Orchard Supply Hardware chain) is sturdy
enough to support 300+ lbs, and is easily large enough to
carry almost everything I'd want to carry around.  The big
problem will be fitting out the interior with dividers.

Mind you, I'm not sure I can fit it in the trunk of my car.
