I was in the same boat at Christmas. I had several people wanting Erin's istD, but it would fail, just as a deal was closing.
I decided to send it in as well as the busted FA 70-200 and repair both. I managed to sell the istD and a 35-70 lens for $400 Canadian. Two weeks after, it failed again. I offered a full refund, but he sent it i with a letter, and was repaired again under Pentaxs 90 day warranty. Its been fine ever since, and i feel better knowing that. Its a tough call, but if you sell it as is, but it in big bold red letters.
