Exactly. There shouldn't be much difference. And you're not the only one who thinks it's dark ;-] I converted this one using the RGB -> LAB -> lightness channel to greyscale conversion. Added a dup layer, blended them, adjusted opacity of the blend then painted through to the lighter areas I wanted to come through. It's a cool technique.
