If I'd seen a Nikon 8000 for under $1000, I'd have grabbed it in an instant. I haven't seen one for under $1200 ....
Last year I purchased a used Nikon LS-40 for $200 or so. I just started using it recently. It's an excellent scanner and makes it easier to scan 35mm and APS than my old Minolta Scan Dual II ... the auto strip loader works very nicely, as does the slide loader and APS loader. I'd have gone for an LS-50 or LS-5000 if I could find one inexpensively enough, but everything I looked at was more than double the price. I obtained a V700, primarily for the purpose of scanning 120 film, and it arrived just yesterday. I'll likely do diligence and test its quality against the Nikon today.
