My original post on the topic was that with digital photography you cant get as good a results as you can with film with minimum effort like you can with film. With digital you have to do one of two things that are both hard, either shoot and process RAW manually or shoot jpeg VERY CAREFULY. Neither of these are nearly as easy as shooting color neg film and having it processed at decent lab. The reason is film capture has great latitude , similar but even better than RAW digital, yet lab printing from film can be automated with great results, UNLIKE RAW. jco

If you want instant, shoot JPEG in the camera or find an automated batch conversion that works for you. That's the same level of control as dropping film off at the lab where a flunky getting minimum wage tosses it into the "Develop-O-Matic" If you want the fine level of control that manual RAW tweaking allows you to do on the low percentage of shots for which automatic doesn't work right, then be glad you have that capability.
