It is hard to recommend without a little more information. Are you
trying to shoot the live event? Can you get in the way? Can you move
around? Will they allow flash during the actual confirmation? Are
you allowed to have setup equipment in the way during the
confirmation?

Treating it more like a wedding ceremony...You will either be allowed
flash or not. That is something to ask the Priest beforehand so you
can be prepared. Assuming you are allowed flash - can you move around
to get different vantage points? If you are allowed to move around,
your flash equipment needs to move with you. That most likely means
that it should be on camera, preferably with a bracket so the flash
won't cause redeye and the shadows will fall behind the the subject
rather than to the side. In that case, a light modifier would be
useful - bound card, Omni-Bounce or Lumiquest unit.

If you will not be allowed to move around, but can use flash, then you
might consider a two flash setup - but you need a way to trigger the
second flash - wireless or radio slave. You are starting to get into
more costs - two flashes, light stand, trigerring equipment and
knowledge.

For your purposes, I would really recommend the AF540FGZ with a bounce
that doesn't need a ceiling - probably a Lumiquest unit - bounce or
softbox and a bracket - that way you just set it up about like your
old TTL stuff and let the P-TTL do it's thing.
