Hello Jack, I have the answer to your problem. They examined my pictures and indicated the issue. What happens is that they look for exif data in the image. If they find any, they look for Pentax camera. If they don't find that, they reject it.
In my pictures, the scanning software embedded some data in the exif, which caused their software to look for Pentax camera. This was what caused the rejection. So what you need to do, is use the Adobe (Elements or Photoshop) Save for Web option - this actually strips out all the exif data. Then you can upload your scanned images.
