In my opinion, Film vs. Digital IS a religion, but that's another argument.
I do have some experience to share shooting and post-processing similar subjects with two different workflows: 1) Web Gallery: http://www.westerickson.net/lithportals/ -->Rolleiflex 3.5E (6x6 medium format) -->Kodak Portra 400UC -->Epson 4870 (resolution set to 2400 dpi) -->Photoshop digital lith workflow -->Epson R800 2) Web Gallery: http://www.westerickson/brickwork/ -->Pentax *ist-Ds -->Photoshop digital lith workflow -->Epson R800 Now, my digital lith workflow is more about accutance than dynamic range, so this is a limited comparison. From what I can tell from various review articles, the Epson 4870 does pretty well at 2400 dpi. With this workflow, my observation is that I can extract about twice as much linear detail from the scanned images as I was from the *ist-Ds images. When I get home I'll take a look at pulling out some 100% crops for further comparison. Your mileage may vary, objects in mirror are closer than they appear, etc. --Mark -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
