In fact now I'm thinking that the jpeg "issue" may be a design decision. *If* it's tuned for better tonal gradation (I hope I'm using the correct words), the dynamic range will be lowered (since you have only 8 bits/channel to store the data). But I have no idea if this is really the case. I don't use jpeg anyway. So I don't really care :)

Don't worry, I won't. I think we all agree that Phil Askey made a mistake regarding SR, I don't expect this to be the only one (whatever the reason).
