I'd say a few of 'em were lightened up too much - there's no black  
left in the shot when it's clear that there was darkness/black in the  
original scene.  (Clue: In the histograms of the outdoor night shots,  
you'd expect the curve to hit the left end (or at least get very  
close) indicating that there is stuff in the photo that represents  
BLACK)

Well crud.  Now that I have typed all of that, I pulled down a copy  
that I could pull up in Photoshop and show the funkiness of the  
histogram - and it's displaying much darker in Photoshop than it is  
on my display in Firefox.  (This is on a MAC for those who care or if  
it matters)

Anyone know what gives there?

Below is a link that shows the difference I'm seeing - on the left- 
hand side is a fraction of the file from within Photoshop, overlaid  
with the histogram from (again) Photoshop.  On the right half is the  
Firefox screen that is right below Photoshop, and it is noticeably  
brighter/lighter.  Washed-out, even.
