Pretty much.

Having tested a couple of setups, SR is quite good up to about 4:1, vaguely 
useful between than and 2:1 and utterly useless beyond 2:1. I've also tried the 
Nikkor 105mm VR Macro with very similar results. Luckily, most of my macro work 
is in the 2:1-4:1 range and so I get a stop or two out of it.
