The DoF preview on the On/Off switch can be either digital or optical. In the case of Digital Preview you get a preview on the LCD that can have a histogram and highlight and shadow clipping warnings if you have your instant review configured that way. IIRC teh K10D can also manually adjust the White Balance when doing this. Optical DoF is the traditional stop-down the lens and look through the finder.
