With the K-10, -Set the preview from optical to electronic in Custom Settings/Preview Method. -In Playback/Digital Preview, select Histogram. You now have a more accurate light meter than you could ever hope for, flash or ambient. If you want to be truly amazed, look into custom white balancing on this camera. In a word: F#ckin' amazing.
