Because at the time the firmware for the space estimator was written,
there was no such thing as a compressed PEF.  The capability has since
been added, but the space estimator has not yet been updated.

Simple, really.   I'm sure it will get addressed in a future release
of the firmware, just as I'm sure we'll eventually see compressed DNGs.
