Normally, it is said that Li-Ion batts have no memory effect and it is
better not to drain too much.
However, every time I change my cell phone, which uses Li-Ion, the manual
clearly recommends the deep cycling for the first few times or so to obtain
the max charging capacity. I thought my Apple laptop manual might have
recommended the same thing (this, I am not certain). No, I am sure I am not
talking about NiMH batts. In the case of Apple, it may have much to do with
the internal electronics (capacity indication) which no longer show accurate
charge level. Deep cycling brings the indication back to normal.

So, I make it a habit to charge new Li-Ion to full, use it till drained and
repeat this a couple of more times. And a deep cycling every few months. It
should not hurt anyway.
