Tamron and Tokina got the probably skinny on lens compatibility because 
they both have been OEM suppliers for Pentax lenses. It's a lot easier 
to reverse engineer something after you've seen the real spec ;-) My 
Pentax contacts told me specifically that they don't license this stuff.

I expect the complexity of dealing with flash communications, 
especially during the past 5-6 years of digital transition, is why 
Metz, for example hasn't produced a Pentax P-TTL flash. Granted, market 
share has a little to do with it, but for a company that specializes in 
flashes, there is probably more to it than that.
