The 22 bit A/D converter is not noise reduction; and you certainly should 
not have expected K10D, being 10MP, to be any better than DS in terms of 
noise.

But why are you using auto WB?  And why don't you use RAW?
Even without a PC, you can use the camera to process the RAW and adjust 
the WB to your liking.
