My recent midwest trip started with a drive to AR, then to St. Louis, MO, and finally back home to PA. In all, about 2000 miles round trip. The first tank took me into the Appalachians of WV on I-68. Pretty much straight up and straight down. I got 16 mpg. No worries, right? It'll get better once the road smoothes out. Wrong. 16 mpg all the way to St. Louis. I usually get 20 or so on the highway. Finally, at the first fill-up on the way home it hit 17, then 18 and the final tank was 19.
