I had an AF-280T flash which i wanted to use as a fill-in light with the LX in high ambient lighting situations (sunlight). I found that by blocking one of the contacts (the 'quench' circuit IIRC) the flash would fire okay in manual. I mooted the possibility of installing a switch so I could disable/enable the quench circuit without resorting to shoving a piece of plastic between contacts on the hotshoe. Steve dared me to.....so I did. The rest (as they say) is history. This would have been about 1998 or 1999.
