I have a friend (I pay her well) who is into scuba diving, and wants to do some underwater digital photography.
----- Sorry if this comes through twice. My finger slipped while I was typing it. Underwater photography is how I got my start, but that was as a kid in California in the 60s. I had a Nikonos II (or I?). Still have it. I don't follow it anymore, but have seen reference to housings (Ewa?). Probably for Canikon. A good place can make a custom plexiglass housing for just about any camera, but expect to pay. An external finder is probably necessary, which means a prime lens. It used to be that people got around the finder problem by using a Rollei TLR, or anything medium format with that kind of focusing screen. Very pricey, even then. Then there is flash. Another problem. I think I have seen references to housings for some P&S models. I would start with B&H. There are undoubtedly also dive magazines (there used to be), with ads. The California gang can probably help. When I did this in the mid 60s around the Monterey Peninsula, there would be 2-6 divers on a beach, depending on weather. When I went back a couple of years ago, some popular beaches had 40 or 50 divers. With that kind of market growth, there will be gear. Email me if you have specific questions. I don't know today's gear, but the basic principles of what to look for haven't changed. Joe -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
