Dave, I've had experiences like Don's with my *istDS when the batteries ran out on our trip. It a had 1/2 battery icon briefly at about 4,600 (or 5,000) exposures (2nd set of lithiums in my DS). I noticed, but kept on shooting.
Within 100 shots, I couldn't take a picture when I pressed the shutter release. I looked at the LDC on top and the battery icon was blank. Replacing the batteries wasn't convenient, so I shut the camera and turned it back on again. I got a 1/2 battery icon showing and used the camera for several more shots. I worried about what I was getting and reviewed the shots in the camera. They looked ok and I did the on/off trick a couple of more times until I found time to change to new lithiums. I don't think you have a problem unless the *istDis a real battery hog compared to the *istDS. I think the problem we are having here is aggrivated by long battery life. I've used two sets of lithium batteries in ~15 months. You really have to pay attention to notice battery/camera behavior at the end of battery life and this doesn't occur very often. The lithiums look really strong to me, and they have some residual life left if you give them a short rest...so the situation is very confusing. Regards, Bob S.
