It was a case of 'they aren't actually going to fix the LX, I own enough 
cameras without meters and the MZ-5n is the only other body of interest 
they had'.

While I liked the MX, I did find it too small to handle as well as it 
could have. The MZ-5n doesn't have that issue, being ever so slightly 
bigger than the LX (Which I also own). I'd been meaning to get an MX 
winder, but never had the money when one became available.

So far, I'm liking the MZ-5n as a MF multimode body, a short AF test 
indicated extremely poor AF performance, likely due to the lack of cross 
sensors. That's not much of an issue, I only own 1 AF film lens (the 
SMC-F 35-80), which I rarely use and I have little intention of adding 
more, preferring to save money by buying SMC-A or earlier lenses, or 
getting DA's for the K100D.

I did try the 16-45 on the MZ-5n, it looks quite usable out to 24mm, but 
only time will tell about its corner performance on film.
